How do I become a Christ-follower?

A Christian is simply one who follows Christ as the Lord of their life. How does someone make Christ Lord, and become a Christ-follower?

First, you must place your trust and confidence in Jesus alone for salvation. Nothing you or anyone else can do can earn or buy salvation from sin. It is only through the power and grace of Jesus that we can be saved.

Second, you must submit your will to the will of Christ. In other words, you surrender your ‘rights’ to Christ and make him the master of your life. In essence, you become a slave to Him, doing what He desires, and not doing what displeases Him. In ‘Christianese’ we call this repentance, that is, turning away from the old life, and following Christ.

Third, you must make a public commitment. In front of a group of people, large or small, you say that you trust Christ and His power alone, and that you have submitted you will to His. This public commitment helps you to identify with other Christ-followers, and to offer you a level of accountability with them.

Fourth, you seal the covenant in Christian baptism. The physical act of going down under the water and rising up again, symbolizes a magnificent spiritual reality that takes place at that time. It symbolizes the death of the old way of life, and the resurrection of a new life, in the same way that Christ died and rose again.
